GOVERNMENT’S move to provide a cushioning allowance for vulnerable people on the ministry’s database during the 21-day national lockdown period has been warmly received by residents but they expressed fears that only Zanu PF members would benefit.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Paul Mavima has announced in a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday that government has approved a cushioning facility to benefit at least one million beneficiaries
The money would be channelled via a mobile money transfer platform OneMoney wallet, operated by mobile network operator, NetOne, Mavima said.
“We are taking those really disadvantaged as a result of the lockdown, especially in urban areas. Our target is one million,” he said.
“It will be $200 per individual, so if there are four people at a particular household, they will get $800.”
He added that government was also negotiating the use of Telecash and EcoCash platforms for the transactions.
