MDC-T national chairperson Morgen Komichi yesterday invited Nelson Chamisa to embrace the Supreme Court ruling, as it offered him a lifeline to legally become party president by contesting at the opposition’s extraordinary congress set to be held before the end of July.
Komichi also promised to use his wealth of experience and influence in the ailing party to unite the warring parties in the political outfit including the Chamisa faction.
He said they were now busy collating the party’s membership data in all its structures decimated by factionalism and assured all members that the extraordinary congress will be held before end of July.
“Everyone is free to contest, this means that even Nelson Chamisa is free to come and contest, I actually want him to come, he is a member of the MDC, he was not expelled, if he wins we will support him and if any other person wins we will support them.
“The conflict that is there is not about Chamisa, Komichi, (Douglas) Mwonzora or madam (Thokozani) Khupe, we are the same family that has been given an opportunity by the Supreme Court to come together under one umbrella and be able to be unite once more. We going to publish the names of all the people prepared to go with us to the extraordinary congress we have almost a full standing committee that was left by Morgan Tsvangirai ready to go to the extraordinary congress
He claimed thatthe MDC-T had the support of almost every Member of Parliament, minus those recalled, who were ready for the congress.
“We have received calls from Members of Parliament and almost every councillor that they are now embracing the Supreme Court judgment, their excuse was simple that they were being intimidated and forced to sign affidavits.
According to Komichi they were running a sick organisation and his immediate task was to revilitise it through countrywide consultations with the membership seeking the way forward.
“The national chairperson’s constitutional role is to make sure that the party is injected with a drug that will cure the organisation leading to a healthy state of affairs.
“We will introduce a culture to make sure that the people owned the party. In the last two years we have never consulted the people to ensure that they have ownership of the party, such kind of a culture will ensure that the party will be revived.”
He warned those bent on violence and threats that their days were numbered since the party does not tolerate undemocratic practices
