Harare City Council suspends new parking fees
HARARE City Council today suspended the new parking fees by its subsidiary company City Parking of US$1 per hour following an outcry by the motorists.
The new tariff which was only communicated yesterday was supposed to come into effect today.
Harare City Council’s corporate communications manager Michael Chideme told Zim Community News that the old charge of ZWL$20 per hour will remain in place until further notice when proper consultations were done with the stakeholders.
“We would to inform our dear motorists that as council is the sole shareholder in the City Parking has engaged the business unit following widespread complaints over its new parking tariff.
“So Council has shelved the utility’s move to charge US$1 or its equivalent until proper consultations are done and consensus is reached. In the meantime, parking reverts to the old rate,” he said.
