Huge spike in Zim Covid-19 local transmission

ZIMBABWE yesterday recorded its biggest daily recorded spike in new Covid-19 cases – 273, with 260 of them due to local transmission, and 231 of them in Bulawayo – since the onset of the pandemic on 20 March 2020.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the positive cases included returnees from South Africa (12), Mozambique (1) and 260 local cases who are isolated.
There were three Covid-19 fatalities and the total death toll in the country is now 23 and confirmed cases 1 362.
“Today we regret to report three (3) deaths; (2) at the community level and (1) at the facility level. These deaths occurred in Bulawayo Province.
“The community deaths were detected during routine post mortem as part of our COVID-19 surveillance.
Due to a backlog of sample processing at NTBRL, Bulawayo reported 231 cases om the day which were collected over the last seven days but were not processed.
These cases will be distributed in the EpiCurve according to dates the samples were collected.
Thirty (30) recoveries were reported by Mash East Province (25) and Manicaland (5).
The cumulative number of tests done to date is 97 508 (58 392 RDT and 39 116 PCR).
