POPULAR Mutare prophet, Madzibaba Andby Makururu has applauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa for uplifting women in Manicaland province by appointing them to top government positions.
Madzibaba Andby said this following the appointment of Chimanimani West legislator Nokhuthula Matsikenyeri as the Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister replacing Ellen Gwaradzimba who succumbed to Covid-19.
Since coming into office, Mnangagwa has appointed three successive provincial affairs ministers in Manicaland, beginning with honourable Monica Mutsvangwa in 2017.
Mutsvangwa was later appointed Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services while Gwaradzimba replaced her as the Manicaland provincial affairs minister.
An advocate for gender empowerment, Madzibaba Andby added that elevating women to leadership positions will reduce corruption in the country as most of them were more responsible.
“l salute President Emmerson Mnangagwa for appointing another woman as provincial affairs minister, our President is uplifting women in the country,” he said.
“Sometime ago it was taboo to appoint a woman to a senior position, so l am happy. As a church leader l have realised that women are not difficult to work with in church, so if we have a woman minister in Manicaland, she will understand,” he said.
“So our President is giving our women a chance to prosper. As a church leader l have also realised that women also have many problems in church,” he said.
“I believe if the President continues to appoint women in senior government positions this will help fight corruption, it will take five or 10 years to convince a women to deal in corruption,” he said.
Before operation restore legacy, Manicaland also had another female minister Mandiitawepi Chimene.
Chimene, an ardent critic of Mnangagwa whom she described once described as a “border jumper”, is in self-exile.
