FOLLOWING the overwhelming success of the inaugural Zim Community Awards held virtually in January, Perfection Media (Pvt) Ltd, publishers of the country’s fastest-growing community newspaper, Zim Community News, have selected a high-profile team to run their awards.
Prominent businessman Nigel Chanakira is the Zim Community News Awards Advisory Committee (ZCNAAC) chairperson.
Chanakira is deputised by multiple award-winning philanthropist Sylvia Sanyanga in a committee that also includes Pastor Emanuel Sundire, Pastor Jefferson Muserera, Jimayi Muduvuri, Grace Mugebe, Daniel Bingadadi, Bhuran Weston and Obert Mazivisa.
The ZCNAAC has taken over the reins for the identification, selection and honouring of the achievements of our community members who have made a significant contribution to our communities.
The award recipients shall be selected from both local and other Zimbabweans based in the Diaspora.
Another honorary award category is reserved for a prominent African personality.
Multiple award-winning Nigerian gospel musician, Sinach swooped the African gong during this year’s awards.
Perfection Media official, Tariro Masunda, who is one of the few women publishers in the country, said that they felt honoured that the committee has accepted to take up the roles to steer the ship forward.
“We thank God that these high-profile members who have made awesome contributions in our communities and beyond our borders accepted our invitations to run the awards.
“Following the success of our inaugural awards we felt that it was time to give ownership of the administration of the awards to a select body of experts in the communities consisting of professionals armed with expertise in various fields that enables them to recognise, select and honour our community heroes.
“This is done through hosting an annual awards night that honours the award finalists with a special award presentation.
“The ZCNAAC shall also identify other programmes and activities that shall be of benefit to the communities.
Masunda added that the ZCNAAC shall also be responsible for the marketing and fundraising for the holding of the awards ceremony and after meeting costs of holding the awards, any surplus income shall go to charity and to the training needs of journalism interns at Perfection Media (Pvt) Ltd.
”As a final-year journalism student at the UZ, I know the challenges that my colleagues face and would like to thank my partner and mentor Mr Albert Masaka and our mum (his wife), for the great sacrifices they have made for us,” she said.
