THE High Court has freed Transform Zimbabwe party leader Jacob Ngarivhume who was in jail for eight months following his conviction of incitement to cause public violence.

High Court judges Pisirayi Kwenda and Fatima Maxwell, sitting as an Appeals Court, upheld Ngarivhume’s appeal against both conviction and sentence.

He was being represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku.

In April Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka convicted and sentenced Ngarivhume to 48 months imprisonment, with 12 months suspended.

The State had alleged that in July, 2020, Ngarivhume had posted on his X handle inciting the public to protest against fuel price increases and economic hardships in the country.
